My training is based on the modern massage techniques developed in the nineteenth century, by a Swedish Physiologist. These Swedish techniques are also used in other therapies such as physiotherapy, stress management and aromatherapy.

My aim is to give treatments which encompass the whole person, working towards helping with specific requirements as well as to relax the soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them, and decrease pain.

Carole on Mount KilimanjaroI enjoy outdoor activities and find spending time exercising and playing sport very beneficial to my work as a massage therapist.

In 2005 I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with my daughter which represented a personal challenge as well as a dual fundraising event. The charities we chose were The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice in Hampton because we very much wanted to support a local community charity. We also chose Cancer Research UK in memory of my father, and close friends.

Ben Nevis summit - Three PeaksIn 2009, I took part in the Three Peaks Challenge, with my son and his partner, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just over 24 hours. This was also a fundraising event - this time for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust - to support a close friend whose grandson has CF.

In 2010/2011, I travelled to New Zealand to visit my daughter and we spent the majority of our time walking in the mountains and taking in the most spectacular scenery. We undertook one of New Zealand’s Great Walks – The Routeburn Track – which is a three day hike in mountains overlooking the most stunning scenery, within the Fiordland National Parks. Another amazing, and challenging, one day walk was the Tongariro Crossing, located within the Tongariro National Park and 20 km southwest of Lake Taupo. Here the terrain is very similar to sections of the Kilimanjaro climb and, once again, we saw jewel-like lakes and were saturated with breathtaking beauty. I also ski regularly, play tennis and enjoy cycling.

Sport and exercise is very beneficial and I can, where appropriate, provide an awareness of the benefits of participating in a regular stretching and exercise programme. I have been lucky enough to work with a ladies football club, rowers, tennis players and cyclists. Through this experience, I have positively assisted individuals who have presented with the following:

  • Regular treatments/body “MOT” for injury prevention as well as relaxation
  • Have encountered overuse injuries through yoga, kickboxing, office work, rowing, cycling, therapy and care work
  • Upper body/posture conditions through being in an office environment
  • Suffer from stress
  • Spend prolonged periods driving
